After seven years of working in Australia, Future Fund emerging markets director Caroline Gorman is departing the sovereign wealth fund to check out the job scene in London.

.It's unclear whether the move is temporary or permanent since it's becoming increasingly common for investment professionals to take long sabbaticals to re-think their career path.

In a LinkedIn post, Gorman said she looks forward to exploring career opportunities from London and offering an Australian perspective on the complexities of the present geopolitical and investment landscape.

She has over 15 years of financial market and investment experience in emerging markets.

The outgoing Future Fund executive joined the Future Fund in 2017 from GAM, where she held several senior roles, including as portfolio manager.

She spent 12 years with the Swiss asset manager.

"It's been an honour to have worked with the Future Fund with such talented and purpose-driven staff who work tirelessly for the benefit of future generations of Australians," she said on social media.

"Thank you, especially Raphael Arndt, Craig Thorburn, Andrew Pearse and Kimberley Reid.

"Farewell-for-now to colleagues and industry peers, I've had the pleasure of spending time with in Australia."

She is not alone in wanting a stint offshore.

Alliance Australia deputy chief investment officer Brandon Roddis is taking a two-year assignment in Europe to increase his promotion prospects.

The move to the Munich head office is a temporary gig for Roddis, whose manager supported a move that would hone his skills and help him deepen internal relationships.
