Allianz Australia's deputy chief investment officer has left to take up an investment manager role at the parent company in Munich.

The move to the insurer's head office is a temporary gig for Brandon Roddis, whose investment chief supported the sabbatical so he could further develop his skills and strengthen internal relationships.

Allianz Australia investment chief Matthieu Durin, who was instrumental in arranging the assignment for Roddis, came to Australia from Germany 18 months ago.

Roddis plans to return to Allianz Australia after the two-year stint in Munich.

"The current plan is for him to return to Sydney but yes, the idea is for him to get some experience outside of Australia," said Durin.

Roddis joined Allianz Australia in 2018 and four years later was promoted to acting chief investment officer.

He filled this position for six months before becoming deputy chief investment officer of the $10 billion multi-asset investment portfolio when Durin arrived.

Roddis has worked in insurance, superannuation, pension, and charity/endowment organisations.

Previous roles include asset consultant at Frontier, investment analyst at BT Financial Group and credit analyst at Macquarie Group.
