What are you most looking forward to in the new role?

Getting back to basics and focusing on the provision of great advice. I am excited about the genuine sense of purpose and looking forward to seeing our efforts and contribution enrich and protect our clients lives.

What skill do you think is paramount in working in the financial services industry?

The ability to communicate effectively and with genuine empathy.

We are in the services industry and while it might be tempting to think that technical financial know-how is the critical skill, it is simply a ticket to the game. The ability to connect with your clients and truly understand their needs and objective is paramount. To quote a Pulitzer prize-winning author: "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb into his skin and walk around in it".

If you could give advice to someone starting out in the industry what would it be?

Start each day with a curious mind and anchor your efforts to purpose beyond mere profit. Your world will become a much more interesting place, you'll learn a lot along the way and there is long lasting reward in doing something that enriches the lives of others. The result of your efforts needs to be a win/win, that's the secret to real success.

What was your very first job?

I worked as a waiter during my university days. That's where I truly learnt the importance of customer service and effective empathic communication. I quickly realised people weren't just paying for food.

Do you have a secret skill/hidden talent?

My other great passion is music and I play guitar in a blues band. I love playing live and seeing people enjoying the music we play, it's an incredible vehicle for connecting with people on a different level.
