No 'hugging' for this award winning fund

Not all global fixed income managers are the same and Brandywine's point of differentiation is a real yield seeking style that is also unconstrained, opportunistic and benchmark agnostic. The flagship Legg Mason Brandywine Global Opportunistic Fixed Income Trust is managed to this investment style. While an unconstrained approach can reveal a wider set of opportunities than benchmark-aware counterparts in its quest for highest real yields, it is likely to mean the portfolio can, and will, take significant positions away from the Citigroup World Government Bond Index.

Brandywine portfolio manager Jack McIntyre said: "We often explain to clients that being benchmark agnostic is not a reflection of a higher risk strategy, because in our view the construction of the benchmark itself is flawed. What this provides is a potentially complementary fit with other strategies that are benchmark aware, for possible further risk reduction."

If performance is anything to go by, the Phildelphia-based fund manager is showing results where it counts. Brandywine is the top performing fund manager over 5 years in the January 2016 Mercer Survey for Hedged Overseas Fixed Income (Broad/Aggregate) Sub-Universe.
