By Penny Pryor

Lonsec has upgraded the ECP Growth Companies Fund, a concentrated Australian equities fund, to a "Highly Recommended" rating.

The fund is managed by ECP Asset Management, part of the multi-boutique investment management group Copia Investment Partners. It is a high conviction  benchmark-unaware fund which typically invests in 25 to 30 stocks.

Lonsec cited ECP's  "strong performance track record of alpha generation from the underlying strategy against the Benchmark" and a "a detailed bottom-up fundamental research effort that is considered logical, repeatable and robust" as reasons for the upgrade.

"We are delighted with Lonsec's upgrade which demonstrates a high level of conviction in ECP as an investment manager. We believe there is a compelling case to consider ECP in the active Australian equity space, which is supported by a stable and experienced team, strong long-term performance and solid ratings," Copia general manager distribution, John Clothier, said.
