CC JCB Active Bond Fund

Jamieson Coote Bonds

Jamieson Coote Bonds (JCB) has partnered with Channel Investment Management to provide retail investors access to JCB's active bond investment strategy, via the CC JCB Active Bond Fund.

"Certainly, as superannuants age, they need a different mix of assets," Charlie Jamieson, CIO and co-founder of Jamieson Coote Bonds said. "We want to make sure that there are these [kinds of] products on the shelf."

JCB invests only in Australian dollar issued government bonds - i.e. state, federal and supra nationals (e.g. World Bank) bonds.

Jamieson says that many of the bond products currently available to the Australian investor have exposure to corporate bonds, which may boost returns, but not necessarily provide the safety that government bonds offer.

JCB believes Australians have a lot to benefit from uncorrelated and defensive investment products, like theirs, to complement growth assets.

JCB's portfolio of actively managed Australian high grade bonds provide:

  • Diversification against risky assets
  • Protection against deflation and cyclical downturns
  • High liquidity
  • Precise and consistent defensiveness
  • No corporate credit (i.e. equity-like) risk
  • A sound source of principal and income

Objective and performance

The CC JCB Active Bond Fund aims to outperform the Bloomberg Ausbond Treasury 0+ Yr Index over rolling three-year periods. The income generated by bond securities is consistent and regular (usually semi-annual). For one year to February 2018, the Fund has returned 2.69%, outperforming the index by 0.11%.
