Westpac Group has announced the retirement of chief information officer, Dave Curran, effective at the end of January 2019.

Commenting on his tenure, Westpac Group CEO, Brian Hartzer, said: "Dave has led a fundamental change in advancing Westpac's technology capabilities...[including] a number of major transformation projects such as the Group's customer service hub, which is already in pilot and an infrastructure and operations initiative that includes moving Westpac's technology capabilities to the cloud."

Hartzer also acknowledged Curran's work in strengthening the efficiency and stability of the Group's underlying technology infrastructure, as well as his positive influence "on the Group's culture and way of working."

Curran was appointed to the role in 2014, having almost 30 years of experience in IT and financial services, and the implementation of large, complex projects. Before joining Westpac, he spent 10 years in senior roles at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and 16 years at Accenture.

His successor will be Craig Bright - currently the chief technology officer for global consumer banking at Citigroup - who will commence in his new role as Westpac Group CIO in December 2018.

Curran will remain on the board of the Westpac Bicentennial Foundation.
