Watermark appoints former Och-Ziff Capital specialist

Watermark Funds Management has announced the appointment of Hamish Chalmers as head of the financials sector, effective May 2017.

Chalmers joins Watermark from Och-Ziff Capital Management in London, where he was a financials sector specialist and portfolio manager for seven years. Prior to this, he was a senior equity analyst with Macquarie Group, covering the financial and insurance sectors.

Watermark has also announced the appointment of Ian Carmichael to the newly-created role of head of the consumer sector, effective April 2017.

Commenting on both appointments, Watermark's CIO, Justin Braitling said he was delighted to be able to attract such strong talent to the business.

"While the local hedge fund industry is a minnow in comparison to our peers in Europe and North America, there is growing recognition that Australia has spawned some strong local hedge funds. It is a testament to this quality that we have been able to attract such high-calibre investment professionals such as Hamish and Ian."

Chalmers replaces Omkar Joshi, who left the firm in January 2017.
