WA Super has confirmed the departure of Paul Phillips from the dual role of chief financial officer and chief operating officer for the $2.5 billion fund, effective May 2017.

Phillips, who joined the fund in March 2008, has been succeeded as chief financial officer by Lee Watson, who took over the role in April 2017 and worked with Phillips for a month to ensure a smooth transition.

Commenting on his departure, Phillips said it was the right time to step down and has made plans to move back to Melbourne to be with his family.

He is currently looking for new opportunities in the operational side of the superannuation sector.

WA Super has confirmed that a replacement for Phillips' role as chief operating officer is yet to be announced.
