Breakthrough Victoria, the $2 billion investment fund, has appointed Sabina Ahmed as director of portfolio construction.

Chaired by John Brumby, the fund -  set up two years ago  - aims to make Victoria a global leader in innovation by investing for impact.

Breakthrough Victoria invests across the capital lifecycle - everything from pre-seed to growth equity.

In her new role, Ahmed is responsible for developing a sustainable portfolio construction framework with a specific focus on investing in innovative ventures that will have a positive impact.

The fund said her background in portfolio management and fundamental and ethical investing will play a crucial role in fostering innovation for Breakthrough.

Ahmed spent over four years at U Ethical Investors as a senior investment analyst.

Before that, she did a couple of stints as a policy adviser and analyst at Victoria's Agriculture Department and Trade and Investment Victoria, respectively.

She arrived from Karachi-based Alfalah GHP Investment Management where, as an equity portfolio manager, she looked after $750 million and allocated assets for private, institutional and corporate investors.

Ahmed joined Alfalah from Atlas Asset Management, where she ran manager research for almost four years.

On LinkedIn Ahmed posted: "I'm eager to make a significant impact! Honored to be part of this remarkable journey and look forward to the incredible opportunities that lie ahead."
