Jon Howie, formerly the head of iShares Australia, has joined VGI Partners as its new chief executive officer.

Howie left BlackRock in March of last year after more than two years with the organisation's operations in Hong Kong. He held several roles during his nine years with the group including managing director and head of index equity for the APAC region. Howie also held senior product roles with Macquarie Bank in both Australia and Hong Kong. He was also the founder of Capital Management Exchange Pty Limited.

VGI chair Robert Luciano said that Howie's appointment is part of a broader strategy for the fund to focs on investor relations as well as operational and risk management capabilities. "We are delighted to have Jonathan join VGI at such an important time in our company's growth. Jonathan is well suited to take our company strategy forward, with the skills and experience needed to drive long-term value for all our shareholders," said Luciano.

VGI co-founder and research head Douglas Tyann stepped back from his executive roles with the organisation in mid-2020.
