John Oberlies has been appointed chief financial officer replacing Johanna Platt, who has resigned after five years in the role.
Oberlies will relocate from the US and be based in Melbourne, joining the Australian executive team.
Joining Vanguard in 2014, he has spent time as the finance director supporting HR, the office of the general counsel, enterprise and most recently, financial adviser services.
He has nearly 15 years of financial planning and analysis experience, working for companies such as Energy Plus and Procura Management.
Vanguard Australia managing director Daniel Shrimski said Oberlies' extensive finance expertise is a valuable addition to the firm as it continues to grow its market share in the retail and intermediary businesses.
After more than five years in the role, Platt has decided to leave Vanguard to explore other opportunities.
In this role, she worked on the fund's financial operations at both a management and statutory level.
She also led the operational teams responsible for providing fund accounting, administration and transfer agency services for Vanguard's managed funds, exchange-traded funds, and separately managed products.
"Johanna has been instrumental in driving business transformation and leading change, providing expert advice, and leading the Finance team during large periods of growth within the business," said Shrimski.
"I want to thank Johanna for all that she has done for Vanguard's Australian business and wish her every success as she looks towards her next career challenge."
Before arriving at Vanguard in 2017, Platt worked in consumer goods, logistics and retail sectors. Her most recent role was finance chief for Iron Mountain's local business.
