The investment arm of the NSW government has promoted James Murray to head of real assets and private markets.

TCorp investment chief Stewart Brentnall said Murray brings deep knowledge and experience of TCorp's investment model, strong leadership capabilities and a fresh perspective to this critical role and team.

"I'm absolutely delighted to welcome him to the investment management leadership team," he added.

"It is an excellent opportunity to retain (and further develop) great investment professionals in a really tight labour market."

Over the past year, TCorp has been active in its real assets investment program, deploying over $3 billion in Australia and overseas.

Top investments include an interest in 21 Moorfields in London; LOGOS, a high-tech intermodal precinct of NSW, and the owner/operator of a wholesale fibre provider to Italy's home network.

"We expect future investment in this area to remain strong as these assets provide income stability in uncertain times, inflation protection, diversity and sustainability to our portfolio," stated Brentnall.

Murray has worked for TCorp since 2015 and held various roles, including senior portfolio manager - diversified funds, defensive assets & credit, acting head of portfolio delivery and head of liability management, derivatives & defensive assets.

Before joining TCorp, Murray worked at State Super as head of fixed interest and derivatives, at AMP Capital as senior portfolio manager, fixed interest and at ipac Securities/AXA Asia Pacific as a senior investment manager.

Earlier, he held the role of institutional research and Japan strategy manager at Colonial First State Global Asset Management, now First Sentier.
