The Commonwealth Bank (CBA) has appointed Anna Lenahan as the new group general counsel and group executive group corporate affairs, filling the vacancy left following David Cohen's appointment as group chief risk officer in early 2016.

Commenting on Lenahan's appointment, CBA chief executive officer Ian Narev said:

"We are delighted to welcome Anna to CBA's Executive Committee. In addition to her legal, regulatory, risk and governance expertise, she has shown herself to be a values-driven leader with strong commercial judgment."

Lenahan is currently chief risk and legal officer at Suncorp Group, having joined Suncorp in 2011. Prior to this, she was a partner at Allens Arthur Robinson (now Allens Linklaters) and has also been a crown prosecutor with the Department of Public Prosecutions in Perth.

Commenting on her departure from Suncorp, effective September 2016, and her new role at CBA, Suncorp CEO and MD Michael Cameron said:

"Anna has been responsible for streamlining the Group's legal partners' panel, establishing an industry-leading capability framework for the team, as well as managing a high performing legal and risk function.

"While disappointing, I can understand why Anna has been attracted to this opportunity [to move to CBA]. On behalf of Suncorp, I'd like to thank Anna for her contribution and wish her well for the future."

Suncorp will commence an internal and external search for her replacement.
