Deloitte partner Russell Mason is the newest director on the State Super board.

Mason previously held senior roles with Mercer for 24 years working in all aspects of superannuation.

These include principal and worldwide partner, national business leader for industry/multi-employer superannuation and Asia Pacific leader for defined contribution consulting.

During this time, he advised industry funds on administration arrangements, competitive structures and strategic directions.

Mason also developed an extensive knowledge of industrial relations practice and procedures.

Most recently, he was a partner with Deloitte for 11 years. There, he was the lead superannuation advisory partner for the firm.

Mason has advised some of Australia's largest funds in setting strategic directions and developing new products and services for members.

"Russell has a demonstrated history of leadership in the superannuation consulting field. His decades of experience in business planning, investment strategies and governance will be a real asset in delivering for our members and stakeholders,' said State Super chair, Nicholas Johnson.

State Super chief executive John Livanas, added that Mason brings the right skills and experience at a time when there are increasingly complex challenges in the superannuation environment.

Mason is a former director of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA).

Following over 30 years of active involvement in both the board and NSW executive, he was made a life member of ASFA four years ago.
