Commonwealth Bank Group Super has confirmed the appointment of Rosemary Vilgan as an independent director of its board, effective 1 February 2017.

Vilgan is an experienced executive and non-executive director and formerly spent 18 years as the chief executive officer of QSuper. She was also a director of the Australian Superannuation Fund Association (ASFA) and the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors (ACSI).

Speaking to Industry Moves, Commonwealth Bank Group Super chair, Neil Cochrane said: "Our Board has always attracted a high calibre of Directors with a wealth of experience and expertise to govern our fund. The introduction of independent trustees plays an important role in the Board's governance, adding a new element of diversity to complement our equal representation of employer and member directors."

Vilgan is also a member of the $9 billion corporate fund's risk and audit committee.

As of 1 February 2017, 5 of the board's 9 directors are female.
