ANZ has announced the appointment of Richard Yetsenga as the bank's chief economist, reporting to managing director - markets, Shayne Collins.

In this role, Yetsenga will lead the ANZ research team, providing economic analysis on the Australian economy, global financial markets, and the economies of major trading partners. He will also be responsible for co-ordinating ANZ's regional economic and financial markets research capability across Asia, New Zealand, Europe and America.

Yetsenga joined ANZ in 2011 and has been acting chief economist since March 2016. Prior to this he was the bank's head of financial markets research and has also held senior economic research roles at HSBC, Deutsche Bank and the Australian Government.

Commenting on the appointment, Shayne Collins said: "Richard's vast economics experience in financial markets both here in Australia and across the region makes him ideally qualified to lead ANZ's research team."
