QIC Real Estate has promoted one of its top people to director of strategic partnerships and mandates and an executive team committee member.

Briar Dowsett moves into the role after being the general manager of funds management.

In this new role, Dowsett will continue to manage QIC's flagship property fund as well as oversee all new real estate mandates and strategic partnerships.

The Queensland government investor said the promotion recognises Dowsett's deep knowledge and expertise in real estate funds management and responds to a growing preference amongst larger investors for more direct ownership structures.

Reporting to David Asplin, deputy managing director and head of funds management, she has joined QIC Real Estate's executive team.

Before her nearly six years with QIC, Dowsett was a senior portfolio manager at QSuper.

She joined the superannuation fund from the National Australia Bank, where she was a director responsible for the origination, structuring and execution of equity finance transactions in the property sector.

Previous roles also include senior portfolio manager at Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation and vice president at BT Financial Group.

On the promotion, Asplin said: "We are thrilled to have Briar commence in this role. It's a well-deserved promotion that recognises Briar's significant skill and expertise and demonstrates our continued commitment to serving the evolving needs of our client base."
