Australian Retirement Trust has promoted Ekagra Gutpa to portfolio manager just two years after he started with the $300 billion fund in the strategy team.

Gupta is responsible for the investment strategy for Australian Retirement Trust's diversified investment options.

He arrived from MLC Asset Management, where he was a senior analyst in the multi-asset team. At MLC AM, he ran investment strategy reviews and analytics for consulting clients.

He was also responsible for asset allocation strategy and research for the firm's traditional retail diversified portfolios and real return strategies.

Gupta commenced his career at JANA, delivering investment strategy reviews and analytics to clients.

Incidentally, the motorsports enthusiast is also the editor-in-chief of ProjectF1 a publication focused on data-driven insights to enrich the storytelling of Formula 1.

Meanwhile, Magellan Asset Management has promoted two Airlie staffers.

Joe Wright has been elevated to deputy portfolio manager for the Airlie Australian Share Fund, and Vinay Ranjan is deputy portfolio manager for the Airlie Concentrated Share Fund.

Wright joined Airlie as an equities analyst in 2021 arriving from Schroders in 2017.

Before that, he worked at Greenstone Partners, an independent corporate advisory business focused on middle market mergers, acquisitions and divestments, and capital structure and financing advice.

For his part, Ranjan joined Airlie as an equities analyst four years ago.  He arrived from Hayberry Global Fund, a long-short global equities fund focused on special situations.

Before this, Ranjan was an investment banking associate at Macquarie Capital, where he advised on several complex M&A transactions including trade sales, recapitalisations and leveraged buyouts.
