Pitcher Partners tax principal comes from BDO

Pitcher Partners Adelaide has appointed experienced tax advisor, Stephen Nisbet, to lead their tax division. He will serve as tax principal for the organisation, which has a focus on serving South Australian property and engineering sectors.

Nisbet has more than 15 years of experience across financial services, most recently at BDO Adelaide where he was tax director. He was also a senior manager at KPMG for more than 10 years.

Nisbet says he's excited to join a firm that's undergoing significant growth. "I feel privileged that the partner group have placed their trust in me at this exciting time," he said.

"I consider myself fortunate to be offered responsibility for a practice that is already demonstrably strong."

Nisbet's tax strategy differs from some of his peers, as he prefers to be an active tax advisor.

"A reactive tax advisor lodges tax returns, gets defensive and careful under audit, and is able to get the job done," he explains. "However, they are not necessarily the first person a client calls outside of compliance season.

"Aside from delivering technically accurate advice and quality thought leadership to clients, an active tax advisor knows that tax decisions are not made in a vacuum.

"Tax advisors must gain their clients trust to offer honest appraisals, provide a 'whole of firm' approach to solving problems and identify opportunities outside of the box."
