MLC Life has recruited an iCare risk professional as chief risk officer, starting in September.

Jane McGovern replaces acting chief risk officer Edwina Star who had arrived from PwC in March following the departure of Darren Robinson.

Before iCare, McGovern has also previously worked at Allianz Global Investors Asia Pacific and Zurich Financial Services

Earlier, she did a nine-year stint with the legal community working first for Blake Dawson and then MinterEllison where she advised on regulatory matters, corporate transactions, restructures and financial product solutions, including life insurance.

"She {McGovern} is a seasoned and experienced chief risk officer with a strong track record in driving innovation in risk management and compliance for some of Australia's largest financial services organisations," said MLC Life chief executive Rodney Cook.

"Her understanding of the issues impacting our sector, as we continue to embed a strong risk culture in our business, will be important as we execute our business strategy,"

The newly appointed CRO said she is "excited to be able to bring innovative ideas and a commercial mindset to support the leadership team on MLC Life Insurance's exciting journey."

MLC Life recently announced that Cook will retire at the end of the year and replaced by Kent Griffin,  the life insurer's finance chief.
