The Board of ANZ has announced that Mike Smith will step down as CEO of the ANZ Banking Group on December 31, 2015, with current chief financial officer Shayne Elliott taking over the top job. Smith, who has held the role for eight years, will remain as a non-executive advisor to the board for an initial 12-month period.
Smith said he was proud of what the management team and everyone at ANZ had achieved over the past eight years. "Our succession process saw a smooth transition to our new Chairman last year and now is the appropriate time for me to step down".
