After almost 19 years, superannuation expert Anthony Schiavo is departing Mercer because of structural changes in the firm.

A partner in the firm, Schiavo held several roles, most recently serving as the governance and legal consulting lead.

Before that, he was the state manager for Queensland and a client management leader within superannuation services.

He joined Mercer from WTW in 2006.

Interestingly, Schiavo is the second senior executive to leave the firm recently.

Last week, Mercer Super investment chief Corrin Collocott quit the firm after just nine months to join Insurance Australia Group.

Collocott - who also served as deputy CIO at Mercer Australia - will be effectively replaced by James Kerr - the firm's head of asset allocation.

In a post on social media, Schiavo said he looked forward to taking a carer break, recharging his batteries, doing a bit of travel, and re-joining the superannuation/financial services sector in the new year.

Speaking of his time at Mercer, he said it was an "absolute privilege" to be part of the extraordinary Marsh McLennan group of companies.

"From running our member services, marketing, online and education teams through to client management of complex, sophisticated superannuation funds, and broader financial services and employee benefits consulting, I've had an amazing ride. "With immense thanks to everyone who made this journey so stimulating and satisfying - you are too numerous to mention.

"I am optimistic about the future, not just for me but for upcoming leaders. We are in very good hands!"
