MaxCap Group has appointed a career banker as the state director for Western Australia.

The property financier has hired Justin Pearce, who has more than 22 years of real estate and resource finance experience in institutional and business banking.

Before Pearce's 11-year stint at the Commonwealth Bank as a relationship executive for the bank's property business, he spent seven years at St George in a similar role.

Reporting to MaxCap investment chief Bill McWilliams, his remit includes the development and growth of MaxCap's business in Western Australia. He will also be responsible for borrowers, investors and key market participants.

"Justin has a successful track record in the WA market. His extensive industry experience, deep market knowledge and broad network will be key to our continued growth. We are delighted he is joining our team," said McWilliams.

"Western Australia is expected to provide continued opportunities for attractive growth and expansion as we continue to diversify the geographic spread of our lending book."

The investment chief noted that Perth currently has the nation's lowest unemployment rate and highest average weekly wage, sub -1 per cent metropolitan vacancy rates and the second most affordable housing of any capital city.

"We remain committed to our Perth strategy of having local market expertise on the ground and expect demand for capital into the commercial real estate market will continue," he added.
