Maple-Brown Abbott (MBA) has announced the appointment of Sophia Rahmani as the firm's new managing director and chief executive officer, effective 14 October 2019.

Rahmani joins MBA from Janus Henderson Investors, Singapore, where she served as chief operating officer, Pan Asia. Prior to this, she was Janus Henderson's chief operating officer, Australia, and spent eight years with Macquarie Group, principally in its asset management division.

Rahmani will take over the responsibilities of managing director from Garth Rossler, who has served as managing director and chief investment officer for the past decade, and will focus solely on his investment responsibilities following Rahmani's appointment.

Robert Lee, chair of MBA, said: "In recent years the firm has enjoyed impressive growth, and we believe that it is an appropriate time to appoint a managing director whose sole focus is managing the business. Sophia has extensive experience in managing and growing global asset managers with experience in Australia, Asia and the US."

Of her appointment, Rahmani said: "In addition to the listed infrastructure team, who I have long known and respected, I have a very high regard for the MBA Australian and Asian equities strategies...I am delighted to be joining the team and excited about what we can do together."
