The Guardians of New Zealand's $60 billion sovereign wealth fund have appointed Pablo Sosa as head of portfolio Investments.

In his role, Sosa will be responsible for leading the portfolio investments team, a major source of active returns for the NZ Super, and driving the Guardians' refreshed tactical credit opportunities mandate.

Sosa replaces George Crosby who took up a new role as general manager of portfolio construction in June.

Joining NZ Super in 2008, Sosa has held various roles across portfolio management, investment strategy, risk allocation, corporate finance, and treasury.

The super fund said his strong technical skills made him well placed to lead the portfolio investments team and implement the Guardians' long-term investment strategy.

Before his role at the super fund, Sosa held various finance roles at Unilever Argentina including supply chain finance, marketing finance, and treasury.

For his part, Crosby who has worked at NZ Super for thirteen years joined from Te Ohu Kaimoana an organisation set up to advance Māori marine interests including customary fisheries, commercial fisheries, and aquaculture.

Earlier in his career, Crosby ran interest rate trading at BNP Paradis, TD Securities and Westpac.
