Westpac Banking Corporation has announced the appointment of Nerida Caesar as an independent director of its board, effective 1 September 2017.

Caesar is currently the managing director of Equifax Australia & New Zealand (formerly Veda Group). According to Equifax, a global information solutions firm, Caesar was instrumental in the integration of Veda following its acquisition in 2016 and will transition to an advisory role with the firm in 2018 to "facilitate the seamless realignment of the Asia-Pacific region."

Ceasar has 30 years' experience in commercial and business management. Prior to joining Veda in 2011, she was the group managing director for Telstra Enterprise and Government, responsible for corporate, government and large business customers in Australia and the international sales division.

Caesar sits on the board's of Equifax, fin-tech hub Stone & Chalk and Genome.One, a subsidiary of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.

In a statement to the ASX, Westpac's chair, Lindsay Maxsted, said: "Nerida's deep business experience, particularly in technology and innovation, will further strengthen the Westpac board. We are delighted to welcome her and look forward to her contribution to the company."
