IFM Investors appoints ED Responsible Investment

IFM Investors has appointed Chris Newton as executive director of responsible investment. Newton will work with the firm's investment teams to develop their responsible investment strategies and support the ESG needs of investors.

Newton was previously head of social innovation and development at Australia Post. Before this his roles included principal economic adviser to the Victorian Premier's office and senior economic advisor to the Treasurer's office.

Commenting on the appointment, IFM chief executive Brett Himbury said: "Chris has extensive experience across the Environmental, Social and Governance sector and he will be integral in providing leadership for IFM Investors in this capacity."

He added: "We're looking forward to Chris applying his deep understanding of finance, capital markets, public policy development and corporate responsibility to drive enhanced ESG outcomes for our shareholders and stakeholders."

Newton will commence his new role on 22 June 2016 and report to chief commercial officer Josh Lim.
