HSBC has recruited Mathieu Forcioli as the global and Asia Pacific head of alternatives for its wealth and private banking business.

Based in Hong Kong, Forcioli joins from Antarctica Asset Management where he oversaw the firm's private markets product offering globally.

Previously, he set up and grew the Asia operations of Moonfare following a ten-year stint at UBS where he was most recently head of private markets for the Asia Pacific.

Earlier, Forcioli held equity capital markets, structuring, and derivatives positions in the investment banking divisions of Merrill Lynch and Calyon.

A key strategic hire, he will be responsible for bringing proprietary and third-party solutions to wealth clients and opening up more opportunities for clients to participate in private markets and hedge funds.

"I am delighted to welcome Mathieu to our team. We are making huge strides to bolster our wealth products and platforms for our clients, and the alternatives proposition is a key element of that," said Lavanya Chari, HSBC's global head of investments and wealth solutions.

HSBC Global Private Banking concluded a record year in alternative investments by raising around US$3.25 billion in private client commitments globally in 2021. This figure was up on the US$2.3 billion raised the year before.

A solid US$1.9 billion of those commitments was sourced from Asia.
