HESTA appoints GM - Strategy & Economics

HESTA has announced the appointment of Alvin Tan as the fund's general manager - strategy & economics. Tan will start his new role on 9 July 2018, replacing Gary Gabriel, general manager - strategy & risk, who resigned from the fund on 25 May 2018.

Tan was previously principal consultant of quantitative research at Frontier Advisors, a role he was appointed to in 2013. Before this, he was a portfolio manager at Goldman Sachs, a research analyst at AllianceBernstein and Macquarie Bank, and an economist at the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Commenting on his appointment, HESTA chief investment officer, Sonya Sawtell-Rickson, said: "Alvin joins HESTA with an extensive knowledge of our investment approach, having worked closely with our investment team at our investment consultant, Frontier Advisors. He brings deep insights on global economic trends and innovative strategic thinking that will make a valuable contribution to our investment team as we implement our broad ranging investment strategy review."

Also joining the HESTA team are Matthew Halpin and Cameron Doig.
