Goldman Sachs' local co-head of investment banking Zac Fletcher has been promoted to partner.

The investment manager said the appointment is a strong recognition of both Fletcher nd the strength and performance of the Australian business.

He joins the group of Australian partners which includes Simon Rothery, Christian Johnston, and Nick Sims, bringing Australian based partners to four.

Fletcher is co-head of the Investment Banking Division in Australia and New Zealand. He is a member of the Australia and New Zealand operating committee.

He joined Goldman Sachs in 2005 and was named managing director in 2009.

Before joining the firm, Fletcher worked at Citigroup Global Markets.

He has more than 20 years of investment banking experience.

Meanwhile Fletcher and investment banking co-head Nick Sims appointed Michael Ashforth as a special advisor based in Perth.

In an internal note, the duo noted that Ashforth has had a long career as an investment banker and lawyer.

Most recently, he served as executive chairman of AMB Holdings, the private holding company of Angela Bennett, and represented AMB Holdings on the board of Wright Prospecting Pty Ltd.

Before that, he spent five years at Macquarie Capital, where he was executive director and head of natural resources for Australia and 13 years at Gresham Partners, where he set up its Perth office.

Earlier, he was a partner at law firm Freehills.

"Michael brings deep experience and connectivity, particularly in the natural resources sector," said Sims and Fletcher in a note.

"His insights and relationships with some of our largest and most important natural resources clients will prove invaluable as we continue to execute on their strategic priorities."
