Rest has confirmed the appointment of Sarah O'Brien as the $57 billion fund's new head of regulatory affairs.

O'Brien has experience across superannuation policy, regulation, governance and operations, with particular expertise in the operational aspects of financial services and superannuation, Rest said. Most recently, she led the establishment and early operation of the Gateway Network Governance Body, a self-regulatory body for the Superannuation Transaction Network.

In welcoming her to the newly-created role at Rest, a spokesperson for the fund said: "Sarah's appointment is important for Rest as we continue to advocate for our members' interests at a time of significant change for the Australian superannuation system. Rest is determined to continue working with the government and industry as Australia's world-class retirement savings system evolves."

In acknowledging her contribution to GNGB, chair Jan McClelland said: "Through Sarah's work, the GNGB has a strong and effective governance framework, focused on ensuring the security and integrity of the Superannuation Transaction Network (STN). This provides a firm foundation for the future direction of the GNGB, demonstrating the importance of collaboration with key stakeholders and the value of strong governance of transaction networks across the financial services sector."

O'Brien is succeeded at GNGB by Michelle Bower.
