Global X adds strategist to team

Global X's local $7 billion business has added a high-profile investment strategist to its local research team.

Billy Leung brings a decade of specialised experience in the Hong Kong and mainland China markets, working predominantly with technology stocks.

He is a popular commentator on the Chinese internet stocks.

Most recently, he worked as an equity analyst at global market maker Optiver for almost three years.

At Optiver, he was responsible for options pricing and designing options trading strategies.

Before that, he was the director of equity research for five years at Haitong International Securities and worked at OSK Securities and RHB Securities.

Global X chief executive Evan Metcalf said Leung will improve the firm's skills at offering specialised ETFs.

"He also brings a refined understanding of the industry from both buy-side and sell-side roles," Metcalf said.

Metcalf noted that Leung's appointment is timely, given the technology sector has delivered outsized returns and seen a rich vein of product development.

"Global X is dedicated to our innovative thematic ETFs, and Leung's appointment is a testament to that."

The chief executive said this year tech-tilted and thematic ETFs have seen strong inflows as Australian investors gear their portfolios towards growth-orientated assets.

Commenting on his appointment, Leung said: "With an extensive career rooted in data analytics and comprehensive research, I'm excited to be able to leverage the robust resources and capabilities at Global X to deliver real client value."
