The Financial Services Council has confirmed Blake Briggs as chief executive officer.

Blake has been acting chief executive for the past three months, having worked at the FSC for more than eight years.

During this time, he served as deputy chief executive and senior policy manager for superannuation.

Earlier, Blake was head of government and industry affairs for wealth at Westpac.

FSC chairman David Bryant - president of Mercer, Pacific Region, and chief executive of Mercer Australia -  welcomed Blake to the new position. "
Bryant said Briggs has proven he is a strong leader for the FSC and committed to the organisation's mission of delivering a financially secure future for all Australians.

"Under Blake's policy leadership, the FSC has advocated for reforms that will deliver a more competitive, efficient, and growing financial services sector that delivers high-quality products to Australian consumers."

FSC co-chair Jen Driscoll, AllianceBernstein's local chief executive noted the lobby group's role as a leading voice for the funds management, life insurance, financial advice, and superannuation sectors.
