Former Wingate exec co-founds Wheelhouse Partners in partnership with Bennelong

Alastair MacLeod has co-founded Wheelhouse Partners with colleagues Andrew MacLeod and Sam Jacob, in partnership with boutique fund incubator, Bennelong Funds Management.

MacLeod will act as both managing director and portfolio manager for the new firm.

MacLeod has 22 years' investment experience and was previously a senior analyst and portfolio manager with Wingate Asset Management, focused on fundamental stock research, integrating derivatives into a long-only global equity portfolio, and trade execution. Before that he was a director with ABN AMRO in New York, and covered the US Media sector before joining the European research sales team covering US-based institutional investors.

Wheelhouse Partners' initial offering, The Wheelhouse Global Equity Income Fund, was launched on 15 May 2017 with the aim of delivering "improved investment outcomes to Australian retirees".

Commenting on the new venture, MacLeod said: "When Australians enter retirement, and have changed from accumulation to redemption mode, their investment objectives need to change too. Australians are fortunate to be living longer, which means investment strategies also need to change to minimise the risk of retirees outliving their savings, and the real-world outcomes that this represents."
