Former Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade joins AMP Capital board

AMP Capital has announced that former Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Varghese, will join its board, effective 17 October 2016.

This follows his appointment as an independent director to the AMP Limited board on 1 October 2016.

Varghese's career in the public service spans over 38 years, including senior positions in foreign affairs, trade policy and intelligence.

His previous appointments include High Commissioner to India, High Commissioner to Malaysia, director-general of the office of national assessments, and senior adviser (international) to the Prime Minister of Australia.

He also joins as a member of AMP's risk committee.

Commenting on his appointment, AMP Capital Holdings chair, Vanessa Wallace, said: "Peter's deep knowledge and broad set of skills will be a valuable addition to the AMP Capital Holdings board as the business continues to expand internationally. His experience in Japan and China is particularly relevant as we...establish a greater presence in Asia."
