Jane Couchman is joining First State Super as their new chief risk officer.

Couchman has significant experience in the finance sector, most recently as the executive general manager for compliance for CBA globally.

Before joining CBA, Couchman spent more than seven years with Macquarie Group in a variety of roles, including head of enterprise compliance where she lead the group's response to a series of ABA initiatives, the Industry Reform Program, which was designed to lift standards and improve transparency across the banking sector. She was also the chief risk officer for BT Financial and general counsel at Perpetual.

Couchman is replacing Suzette Thurman, who stepped down from the role of group executive for risk and compliance in October.

First State Super CEO Deanne Stewart said, "Our highest priority is to preserve the trust of our members as we protect and grow their retirement savings. To do this we must embed a strong governance culture and effectively manage our risk exposure.

"Jane is one of the most respected risk management executives in the financial services sector and we are delighted she will be joining us in this critical role."

Couchman says she believes in First State Super's member-first values. "It's a very exciting time to be joining a fund that is so committed to delivering the best outcome for its members."
