John Dixon, who was nominated by Unions NSW, has been appointed to the board of First State Super.

Dixon is joined by Philip Moffitt, who was nominated jointly by the NSW Secretary of Premier and Cabinet and Secretary of Treasury.

Moffitt and Dixon replace Bob Lipscombe and Ralph Kelly, who are retiring after nine years of service to the board.

"This year promises to be one of the most significant in First State Super's long history," said First State Super chair Neil Cochrane. A merger with VicSuper is due to be finalised by the end of June and a decision is forthcoming on whether they proceed with a proposed merger with WA Super.

"At the same time, our organisation is rising to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, to ensure that we are here to support our members through the current market volatility and economic uncertainty, and that we are also well placed to take advantage of investment and other opportunities the markets may provide.

"With this in mind, we are delighted to welcome John and Philip to our Board. Both join the Board following exceptional careers in their respective fields and will bring new insights and perspectives to the group.

"John Dixon has been General Secretary of the NSW Teachers Federation for the past six years and has a passion for new technologies and the benefit these can provide in communicating with our members and community." Before being appointed general secretary, Dixon was a membership officer and organiser for the organisation starting in 1987. He started teaching in 1979.
