First Sentier Investors has announced the departure of Kejal Somaia as co-head of multi asset solutions.

A spokesperson confirmed that Somaia has decided to leave the firm and, as they understand it, is planning to take some time before considering his next career move.

Consequently, Andrew Harman - the other co-head - is now the new head of the multi-asset solutions team.

Somaia has been with First Sentier - and its previous incarnations - for 17 years.

In a LinkedIn post, he explained that for someone who often sought new pastures early in their career, his longevity at FSI is due to being afforded plenty of opportunities and responsibilities for learning and growth.

"The multi-asset journey has been a multi-faceted and multi-player effort. It is often stated that the greatest asset in funds management is its people, and I can attest to that," he said.

"I've had the privilege of working with some exceptionally talented and dedicated individuals that I have learned from immensely."

As for what's next, Somaia said after such a long commitment, he is keen to refresh and recharge for the next chapter.

"During this time, i will investigate options within the family office space, which i think is under-serviced and has ambitions to become more institutional in their approach."

But he stressed that it is extremely early days.

Moreover, he is still deciding whether he will be more effective at an existing service provider or whether he should start his own firm.
