Firetrail appoints new portfolio manager

Firetrail Investments has today announced the promotion of Oscar Hutchinson to portfolio manager of the Firetrail S3 Global Opportunities Fund.

Having played a key role as a global equity analyst, Hutchinson will have a hand in investment decisions as part of a four-person portfolio management team.

Hutchinson joins ex-Macquarie analysts James Miller and Patrick Hodgens in the portfolio management team along with risk specialist Justin Gray.

With more than ten years of experience investing in global markets, the analyst has deep experience in global equities, including managing a fund and covering most industry sectors.

Hutchinson arrived from private equity firm Anacacia Capital in 2022.

Before that, he worked as an equity analyst at Fidelity International, covering European and UK financials, property, healthcare, metals and mining, and Australian metals and mining.

Firetrail's head of investment strategy Anthony Doyle said all funds are managed by teams of portfolio managers.

Doyle added that Hutchinson will retain his current responsibilities as an equity analyst, as portfolio managers roughly spend 80 per cent of their time on company analysis, with the other 20 per cent spent on PM duties.

The freshly minted portfolio manager said he was "excited" to join the team managing the Global Opportunities Fund.

"Its high conviction approach to equity investing and mission to deliver outstanding performance for clients has resonated with me since my first day in the company," he added.
