FIIG Securities has appointed Alex Welch as chief executive replacing founder and managing director Jim Stening.

Welch is an experienced senior executive with an extensive background in broad wealth management roles across the Asia Pacific.

He was most recently an executive director at Credit Suisse for financial intermediaries within the wealth management business.

Before that, he spent nearly a decade at Standard Chartered Bank finally as group head of capital markets and managed investments.

Earlier in his career, he worked for Macquarie Bank for 14 years before moving to Citi.

FIIG chair Philip Anthon said the board is confident that the new chief executive will drive further growth.

"The board is confident that Alex's leadership will be of significant benefit to FIIG Securities' financial outcomes and that he can unlock the full potential of the business," said Anthon.

Welch said with over 24 years of experience and billions of dollars under advice, FIIG has a proven legacy as a fixed-income specialist.

"I look forward to building on this strong foundation to accelerate FIIG Securities' growth and performance to deliver strong results for our clients, shareholders, and staff."

Stening will remain on the FIIG Securities Board as a non-executive director.
