Funds SA appoints former ESSSuper head of investments

Funds SA has confirmed to Industry Moves the appointment of Matthew Kempton to the newly-created role of director - equities, effective February 2018.

Kempton joined the $30 billion fund from Emergency Services & State Super (ESSSuper), where he was head of investments from 2013 until February 2018.

His previous experience in the investment industry includes roles at Frontier Advisors, ISPT and CBRE.

Commenting on his appointment, Funds SA CEO, Jo Townsend, said to Industry Moves: "The appointment of Matthew is an important addition to our investment team given his previous professional experience and leadership roles. I am delighted that he has joined Funds SA."

A spokesperson for ESSSuper has confirmed that investment manager, Alister Wong, has stepped in as interim head of investments and that the fund expects to announce a permanent successor soon.
