Brett Gillespie, a 12-year veteran of Tudor Investment Corporation is returning to the US hedge fund giant after a seven-year break.

Gillespie -  who joins from the Commonwealth Bank - has been rehired as a portfolio manager to take up a role in the fund's Singapore business.

At the CBA, he served as head of macro portfolios and strategy.

Gillespie landed at Australia's largest bank four years ago from Ellerston Capital an investment company that started as the Packer family office but now invests for sovereign wealth, superannuation funds and high net-worth investors.

Ellerston recruited the trader to set up a global macro fund based in Sydney.

As head of global macro, Gillespie launched retail offerings and wholesale offerings of the Ellerston Global Macro Fund.

As he puts it, he had a flexible and broad global mandate, taking advantage of top-down global themes to identify optimal risk/reward opportunities across all asset classes and geographies.

Before that, the macro-focused trader worked at Tudor dealing in fixed income, FX, equity indices and commodities.

He previously spent 14 years at Bankers Trust/BT Financial Group, most recently running the trading desk.
