Seasoned banker Brendan White has been hired to run Crescent Group which owns Australia's first Islamic super fund.

White joins from the Bank of Queensland where he headed up business banking for seven years.

Before this, he worked for the Commonwealth Bank for ten years, initially as head of financial markets and then as general manager of the lender's regional commercial and agribusiness business.

He has also done stints with Societe Generale and National Australia Bank.

White is currently a director of Gateway Bank and Trade for Good, a share trading platform dedicated to raising funds for charities.

Crescent Group founder Talal Yassine said White's mandate was to spearhead the group's growth and efforts to increase scale.

"Brendan has spent the majority of his career building businesses and leading teams to deliver growth and strong member and client advocacy, both internationally and domestically," he said.

"I look forward to working beside Brendan as we take the group and its constituent businesses to their next stage of development and reach the combined $5 billion mark for super funds under management and residential finance originated over the next five years."

White said he looked forward to contributing to the important business initiatives designed to support the financial health and well-being of Islamic communities all across Australia.
