Chief Risk and Legal Officer departs UniSuper

UniSuper has confirmed the departure of Sean Hughes as chief risk and legal officer, effective June 2017.

Hughes joined the $60 billion fund in July 2014 and was responsible for the leadership of risk and legal services to all of UniSuper's operating units. He was also responsible for oversight of the company secretariat and independent risk assurance functions as well as the fund's political relationships in Canberra.

Hughes is a senior lawyer and risk professional with over 25 years' experience across the financial services, superannuation, insurance, regulators, government and professional services industries. He was most recently the inaugural chief executive officer of the Financial Markets Authority in New Zealand from 2010.

A spokesperson for the fund confirmed that a replacement for Hughes would be announced in due course.
