Channel Capital has strengthened its distribution team, with the appointment of Joshua Ivanyi to its Melbourne office.

As distribution director, Ivanyi will manage and develop relationships with advisers, family office and wholesale clients across Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania.

With over 11 years of experience in the financial services industry, he brings a proven track record of building deep connections with independent and aligned financial advisers as well as high net-worth investors.

Ivanyi joins from Macquarie Asset Management, where he worked as a business development manager for three years across a diverse range of asset classes.

Previous roles include eight years at Vanguard Australia, where he held various roles in distribution and marketing.

Interestingly, his first job at Vanguard was as a risk analyst.

He began his financial services career at Deloitte, providing consulting and risk management services to clients in the financial, manufacturing, energy, and resources sectors.

Channel Capital co-head of distribution Luke Mandekic said Ivanyi 's appointment adds more valuable experience to the team.

"As we continue to carefully assess markets to identify where the most attractive opportunities lie and how investors can best access these, we hope to deliver more innovative investment solutions that provide strong risk-adjusted return potential for our wholesale and intermediary clients," he said.

Ivanyi added that while he liked working for large institutions like Vanguard and Macquarie what attracted him to Channel was partnering with best-of-breed investment managers.

"In assessing the culture of a relatively young and exponentially growing company, what attracted me instantly was the passion everyone in the team has to deliver great client outcomes in what is going to become an increasingly challenging and complex investment landscape".

The recruit stressed that his career journey has been anything but linear, affording him exposure to various facets of operations at Vanguard, from back to front office.

"As a risk analyst, this experience provided me with a profound understanding of the technical intricacies of funds management," he said.

He realised he would have the most impact when combining his consulting background with a technical mindset in investments. This realisation caused a move to sales.

Ivanyi echoed the sentiments of peers by saying gone are the days of traditional business development.

"Today, financial advisers, consultants, and asset allocators are inundated with offerings from countless fund managers, leaving them time-poor and overwhelmed.

"Succeeding in distribution now demands technical investment knowledge and a solid understanding of a client's business and its investors' needs and objectives.

"I've always been committed to upskilling, whether through formal education like obtaining CIMA® accreditation or mastering the nuances of the private and public market strategies I distribute."
