Challenger promotes Murphy to Life

Challenger has appointed Angela Murphy as chief executive for its newly-combined life and distribution teams.

In a statement on the ASX, the organisation said that the life business will continue to sit alongside funds management and its recently-acquired banking business.

Murphy has been with Challenger in a variety of roles for more than nine years, first joining as executive GM of human resources in 2012. She became the chief executive for distribution, product, and marketing in 2018. She previously held human resources roles with Westpac and Mercer.

Challenger MD Richard Howes says Murphy's leadership track record was one of many reasons she was selected to lead the combined operation. "Her intellect and analytical skills, combined with a deep understanding of customer needs, will enable her to continue making a strong contribution through this role."

Anton Kapel, who has been holding the life chief executive role in an acting capacity, will step back into his previous CFO role.
