Challenger has announced the appointment of Chris Plater to the role of chief executive, life, effective 13 February 2017.
He will replace Richard Howes, who will be stepping into the role of chief executive, distribution, product and marketing in the new year.
Plater is currently Challenger Life's principal executive officer and chief investment officer.
Commenting on his appointment, CEO, Brian Benari, said: "Chris Plater is a highly capable successor as chief executive, life. He is an existing member of Challenger's leadership team and has held key Life business roles over the past 13 years."
It is not yet confirmed if Plater will remain in his current roles as he takes on new responsibilities in the new year.
