Lawyer and longtime director for Colonial First State, Anne Ward, is set to retire from the organisation's board at the end of the year.

Ward joined the CFS board in 2013 as independent chair. She has also been a director and chair of Qantas Super, MYOB, and FlexiGroup.

She spent several years as general counsel for NAB in Australia and Asia and has been a partner at Minter Ellison and Herbert Greer.

"It has been a privilege to serve on the board of Colonial First State as its independent Chairman for the past eight years," said Ward. "CFS is one of the leading superannuation and investment businesses in Australia and I am proud to have played a part in its many achievements during my tenure."

Commonwealth Bank deputy CEO David Cohen said the organisation is reviewing the leadership structure for CFS as a focused, standalone business. "I would like to acknowledge Anne's strong leadership of the Board and thank Anne for her significant contribution to CFS and commitment to improving member outcomes," he said.
