SuperFriend, a not-for-profit foundation focused on creating mentally healthy workplaces, partnering with superannuation funds and group life insurers, has announced the appointment of David Atkin as its new chair, effective 15 December 2017.

Atkin joined the SuperFriend board in July this year and replaces inaugural chair, REST CEO Damian Hill.

Hill will remain as a director on the board until the end of January 2018, when he leaves REST Industry Super.

Prior to joining Cbus in 2008, Atkin was CEO for Emergency Services and State Super, and prior to that CEO for JUST Super, the industry fund for the media and entertainment industries. He was also the Australian asset owner representative on the Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI) Board for six years and a member of the Board of Frontier Investment Advisors.

Commenting on the changes, SuperFriend CEO, Margo Lydon, said: "We warmly welcome David as the incoming Chair, and look forward to working closely with him and the Board, to continue SuperFriend's success and impact in saving lives and creating thriving workplaces for the members and staff of our Partners."

SuperFriend has also announced that Teifi Whatley, a founding board director, will take on the role of deputy chair and that James Thomas has stepped down from the board following the announcement that he has retired as AMIST's CEO.

A replacement for Thomas' position will be named in due course.
